It's Chum time again. A nice run of Chum salmon have moved into the South Puget Sound. Chums, also known as Dog Salmon are pound for pound one of the best fighting fish. These aggressive fish will take a Anchovy or small Herring under a "Dink" float in shallow water, using a medium rod and a spinning reel loaded with braided line. These fish will wear your arms out if you find a school finning and feeding.
Chums are not the best eating fish, and commercially are sought after for their eggs.
These fish do have a commercial market in France and other European cities, where they are considered a delicacy. Fresh salt Chums can be smoked and have a very mild flavor.
The Chum runs in South Puget Sound are predicted to be outstanding with a large return. Give Fox Island Salmon Charters a call to book a trip for these hard fighting salmon.
